This year we asked members of our ROTC unit, active service members, and veterans what service means to them, and in the end it’s something we all share in common.

INTRODUCING THE VETERANS COLLEAGUE NETWORK GROUP’s NEW LEADERSHIP
CHAIR: Debra Howell is the Director of Information Technology for Infrastructure Properties and Planning at Cornell University. She has over 18 years of experience providing strategic direction in all areas of information technology. She received her Master of Industrial and Labor Relations degree from Cornell University in 2006 and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). Debra served in the U.S. Army Reserves as a medic from 1993—2001 and is now an Office of the Secretary of Defense certified Master Trainer and spends her free time volunteering as an instructor for Army Reserves Family Programs and the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program. She serves as Treasurer on the Cornell Club of Ithaca Board, the Vice Chair of Operations on the Board of the Friends of the Ithaca Youth Bureau, and is the Information Officer on the Board of the NYS ACE Women’s Network.
VICE CHAIR: Edgar J. Johnson, is currently a Staffing Consultant with Cornell’s Office of Workforce Recruitment and Retention, Division of Human Resources. His primary focus is proactive recruitment providing consulting services and assisting Cornell’s human resources community and hiring departments in the strategic development of talent pipelining with emphasis on increasing workforce compositional diversity to include military veterans. As a veteran of the US Army and Army Reserve, Edgar’s professional career in human resources span several sectors to include the military, healthcare, higher education, non-profit, and county and state government agencies. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis campus, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Le Moyne College in Syracuse.
We want to thank Rick Roper, Rob Morris, Emily Franco, Jase Baese, Dave Juers, Glenn Larratt, Steve Headrick, and Keith Tidball for their unwavering support of the Veterans Colleague Network Group over the years. They have successfully and enthusiastically served our veteran community. Their commitment to veterans and their advocacy has led to multiple goals being reached. Rick Roper and Emily Franco will continue to serve alongside our current leadership as Members-At-Large. Jase Baese will continue to lead Team RWB.
We look forward to another term of dynamic and impactful veteran initiatives!
Chris Watkins, CCE Director, recently announced the half time appointment of Keith Tidball as Assistant Director, Disaster Education, Military Families and Veterans. Tidball, a US Army National Guard veteran, is a senior extension associate in the Department of Natural Resources in CALS who has been conducting research and extension in the contexts of disaster and war for over a decade, and has been with cooperative extension since 2002.
Rob Morris, our VCNG Vice-Chair, has been elected to be the Veteran Representative on the Employee Assembly.
Cornell has announced a history making collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). In a sweeping move closely tied to Cornell’s rich military tradition, the DoD and Cornell have jointly announced that Cornell will be the pilot University for a new program to enhance American military capabilities.
