Returning Veterans Turn To Agriculture

Military veterans are one group of individuals, returning from active duty and looking to re-enter civilian life. Many of these veterans are from rural areas. They have a broad amount of experience and background that their service provided. And often they really prefer and enjoy working with their hands and they like those active types of employment.

— Anu Rangarajan, director of the Cornell Small Farms Program, describes why many returning veterans are attracted to programs at Cornell designed to help them build careers in agriculture.

6th Annual Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway of Valor Tribute Ride

The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapters 377, 480 and 704, and Chapter 17 – The Blue Knights Motorcycle Club will be holding the 6th Annual Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway of Valor Tribute Ride.

The ride will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Owego Free Academy in Owego, NY. After a stop for gas and food at noon in the Village of Groton, the Tribute Ride will proceed north once again on Route 38 and will end at the American Legion in Hannibal where there will be more food and entertainment. The ride is open to the public. Please register between 8:00 & 9:45 AM the day of the ride.

You move to a new community. It seems strange at first; you’re surrounded by all kinds of people. How do you engage with them while you find your way and contribute your unique skills and perspective? This is a common experience for most Cornellians, from new students and faculty to top administrators. New arrivals hear about “diversity” in student orientation programs like Tapestry or during onboarding for new employees. But as with individual conceptions of identity, diversity can have different meanings for everyone.

5th Annual Military and Veterans Appreciation Event at Watkins Glen International Raceway in conjunction with Sahlens’ Six Hours Of The Glen on June 29th, 2014 at Gate 4A.
